KU I KA MANAKU I KA MANA
2019 SUMMER PROGRAM

Monday–Friday, July 8–19, 2019
With funding from

KANU O KA ‘AINA LEARNING ‘OHANA (KALO)

We are hosting our annual summer program beginning June 8 and ending July 19, 2019.

The programʻs goal is to expose our students to career and college pathways that are closely related to our school’s year-long place-based projects.  Organizations and Universities in the community will provide our students with experiences in various careers and college paths. Our hope is that these experiences will spark an interest in our haumana and provide important connections to people and organizations. This would then allow us to guide them to purposefully choose classes and future experiences needed for this specific college or career field.

This summer program has a fee of $50.00 but there are scholarships available for families if needed. There will also be an off-island day trip on July 19th, 2019 to Hilo, Hawaii so that our students can visit UH Hilo. There will be additional paperwork need for this trip.

Our school’s vision is to provide sustenance and empowerment for ourselves and our communities by striving for high academic, cultural, social, environmental, and economic standards, thus nourishing all piko cognitive, emotional, spiritual and physical; to explore and inquire in ways that build upon our ancestral wisdom and bridge to other communities and cultures in a harmonious manner; and to foster a sense of esteem, stewardship, and kuleana to the ‘āina, our communities and ourselves, through grounding in ancestral knowledge and practices of Hawaiʻi and the academic skills necessary to excel in the 21st century. We are hoping to provide career and college experiences and opportunities that support the mission and vision of our school.
