Subject:    School Closure Update (COVID-19)

Dear Halau Ku Mana staff, faculty, parents, and guardians,

Halau Ku Mana PCS (HKM) will remain closed through April 30. Students are anticipated to return to school May 1. HKM employees remain working remotely and distance learning will officially begin on April 7, so please look out for communication from your respective Kumu. *If you would prefer to have your child work with hard copy material rather than online, please let your Kumu know so that they can prepare lessons for your student(s) and we will mail to you.

DISTANCE LEARNING
We have created a Google Form for you to complete so we can get a better indication of our students’ individual needs. Please
complete the form, if you haven’t already done so, so we can better support our families.
For those of you without internet access, Spectrum Hawaii will be offering families of students new WIFI service, called the
COVID-19 Program. Please contact Spectrum directly at (808) 643-2337 for details and requirements regarding this program.

LA ‘OHANA
The fourth quarter La ‘Ohana, which was scheduled for April 25, will now be postponed. We are looking into changing the format of this La ‘Ohana to be a virtual experience for our ‘ohana. The Kumu will be in touch with you regarding what this will entail for your student(s).

GRADUATION
Our Graduation Ceremony, scheduled for May 22, will commence as scheduled. Should we determine that the ceremony will need to be postponed, we will inform you as soon as possible.

HALAU KU MANA WEBSITE
HKM will continue to make all information available on its website www.halaukumana.org as it becomes available. We are working to make specialized pages available for families, students, and staff that will provide resources for online learning.
We will make information available on these pages that will help parents and guardians facilitate good learning environments at home, as well as provide tips and sources of assistance to make the shelter in place period less stressful. These pages will be live early next week and we will let you know when to look for them. Any suggestions for improvement or content that should be shared are welcome and can be sent to info@halaukumana.org.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available to us. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our school office at (808) 945-1600.
