Aloha e ka ʻohana HKM,

This week the Board of Hālau Kū Māna accepted the resignation of our Po’okumu. Poʻokumu Bennett has decided to return to Hilo to mālama his kuleana ʻohana, ending his interim role at Hālau Kū Māna. We are grateful for the leadership and professional expertise that he contributed during the past six months.

The Board has already initiated the process for hiring a permanent, long-term Poʻokumu. In the meantime, the Board is actively taking steps to ensure an orderly transition of school leadership. We are fortunate to have kumu and staff, with decades of combined experience, who remain steadfast in the support of our haumana and the success of Hālau Kū Māna.

The innovative and collaborative spirit that has always grounded our work will continue to guide us now. Transparency and accountability are also important to Hālau Kū Māna. We will be hosting a meeting for HKM ʻohana on January 28th, 2020, at 5:30 pm to provide an opportunity to work through your questions together. The meeting will be held in Kaeleloli Kai classroom.

Mahalo for your dedication to creating the future we all want for our haumana. We are all here together because we believe that as we cultivate young minds, guided by the principles of ho’okumu, ho’okele and ho’omāna, we are helping to build a world where they will thrive, prosper and lead. We stand committed, together, to that vision.

We extend our mahalo and aloha to Po’okumu Bennett and his ‘ohana.
